Residents of Carty House are women who come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and who are in Canada as refugee claimants, convention refugees or recognized protected persons. They are entitled to stay in the house until they are able to live integrated and independent lives in Canadian society. Those with status are permitted to stay up to one calendar year, while those awaiting an immigration determination may stay up to one year after the date of their decision.
